"In The closeT"

a quarantine experiment

In the earliest moments of the Covid-19 pandemic, I was living in my childhood home in California, as many of us were, renegotiating my relationship to the word "normal", and learning how to live with my family again for the first time since I was 17.

In the midst of this, I was asked to create a series of podcasts in an audio post-production course at DePaul University. The only adequate recording space available to me? My bedroom closet. Sitting snug beneath the built-in cabinets and the boxes of elementary school projects, I created these three pieces of audio.

This triptych serves to commemorate my family's experience of being in quarantine. They paint a picture of our changing and growing relationship to one another through a period of both extreme isolation and forced intimacy.
